Quantum college teachers take part in the professional development workshops organized both online and face to face
![]() Quantum college teachers take part in the professional development workshops organized both online and face to face. During September - October, 2010 9 teachers of different subjects had online workshops of Category 1 and got certified by the world’s leading teacher training organizations. From October 16-22, 2010 the principal of the college, the coordinator and three teachers (Mathematics, Physics and Biology) went to the UK to take part in the face to face professional development courses at Wellington college and at Oakham school organized by world’s leading training organization IBICUS certified by IBO, too.
The reason for these ongoing trainings is to take the teaching level at Quantum a step higher than it is now and to be able to keep up with the world famous schools. Pictures:
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() International School on Nanophotonics and Photovoltaics ( CONFERENCE ) ![]() From September 15-22, 2010 the Second International School on Nanophotonics and Photovoltaics was organized in Tsaghadzor. The school was sponsored by the Mediterranean Institute of Fundamental Physics. The local organizer was Quantum college. 83 participants from 12 countries took part in this school. A lot of world famous professors and scientists were present and shared their experience and ideas with their colleagues as well as with the PhD students taking part in the school. Besides the academic programme, a very interesting social programme was organized too, which made the participants stay in Armenia an unforgettable time full of impressions and good memories.
The participants left Armenia with a lot of new ideas and new designed projects which were the result of the discussions and maybe with the hope to have another reason to return to Armenia again. Everybody hopes the new ideas will have their future development and give good results! Below you can find photos taken during the school.

![]() Quantum college applied to the IBO (International Baccalaureate Organization) for becoming one of the IB world schools to implement the Diploma programme in 2009. As a result of passing the second stage of the admission process which is called application part A, it was granted the status of a candidate school on June 11, 2010. Today the school is working on completing the last part of the process: Application part B, which is followed with the visit of the authorization group. The associate Regional manager of IB Diploma programme Andrew Watson was in Quantum college from September 12-17, 2010 with the mission of giving the necessary consultation and helping with the development of the strategic plan which is to be implemented in the school and not only on the high school level but also that of the middle school. Andrew Watson had meetings with the college administration, teachers, students and parents. He was impressed by the level of the science subjects taught in Quantum college, the achievements of the school in different Olympiads as well as in many other competitions, the projects that the college has been working on. He had a chance to meet the deputy minister of the Ministry of Education and Science of the RA Manuk Mkrtchian during the opening ceremony of the Second International school on Nanophotonics and Photovoltaics locally organized by Quantum college in Tsaghadzor. It was a good chance to make sure that the ministry is supportive in the question of Qunatum college’s becoming one of the IB schools offering the Diploma programme. Before leaving Andrew Watson expressed his own opinion, that Quantum college has quite good chances to be accepted into this system. The need of some changes was pointed out too, which will be worked on in the short period that is left before the final authorization visit.
Summer school 2010
![]() During the summer holidays Quantum college students and teachers had a chance to participate in a two-week summer school (July 26- August 7), which was led by two US specialists: Mike Musil and Tim Bayne. The teachers had workshops on student-centered teaching methods, leadership, and development of critical thinking, project writing and essay writing. The students were trained to understand what leadership is and to become leaders. The US teachers also held a course on Project citizen. As a result of the summer school both the teachers and the students had a chance to improve their knowledge of English as the whole school was organized with English language emersion. The project of working with Quantum college teachers and students is continual and it is planned to have its second stage in the period between October and November of this year.
